Behavioral Experiment app privacy policy

Effective date: October 1, 2026

This policy covers the Behavioral Experiment app for iPhone, iPad, and Android, made by Everyday Insight LLC. Here, “we” means Everyday Insight LLC. The behavioralexperiment.com website has its own privacy policy at behavioralexperiment.com/privacy.

The short version

Behavioral Experiment has no accounts, no ads, and no analytics. What you write stays on your device, or in your own iCloud or Google Drive if you turn on sync. We never receive it, and we can’t read it.

What you write

Everything you create in Behavioral Experiment, including your beliefs, experiments, ratings, and step ladders, is stored on your device. It’s protected by your device’s own security, like its passcode and built-in encryption. The app doesn’t add encryption of its own.

Sync, if you turn it on

Sync is off unless you turn it on in Settings.

iCloud on iPhone and iPad. Your beliefs, experiments, ratings, and step ladders are stored in your own iCloud account so they appear on your other Apple devices. They move between your devices and Apple under your Apple Account, and Apple’s terms and privacy policy apply to that storage. We can’t see it.

Google Drive on Android. The app asks Google for permission to use one hidden folder in your Drive, called the app data folder. It can’t see your other files, and it doesn’t receive your contacts or other account details. Your data is stored in that folder under your Google Account, and Google’s terms and privacy policy apply to it. We can’t see it.

Behavioral Experiment’s use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Device backups

If you back up your iPhone or iPad to iCloud or to a computer, that backup can include the app’s data, the same as for other apps. On Android, the app’s data is left out of your device backups.

What you choose to share

Apart from sync or a backup you turn on, your data leaves the app only when you export or share it. You can make a PDF of one experiment, a PDF of one belief, a PDF of everything, or a summary for your therapist. Where a file goes after that is up to you and the app you send it to.

Reminders

You can set a reminder for when you plan to do an experiment. The app can also remind you a few hours later to record how it went, and you can turn on a weekly check-in. All of them are scheduled on your device, so no message comes from anywhere else. The reminder for an experiment can show the situation you wrote, unless the app lock is on, so think about what will appear on your lock screen.

App lock

If you turn on the app lock, the app asks your device to confirm it’s you. On iPhone and iPad that’s Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode, and on Android it’s your fingerprint, face, or screen lock. Your device does the check, and the app never receives your biometric data. On iPhone and iPad, the app lock works only if your device has a passcode set. On Android, while the app is locked, its screens are hidden from the recent apps view and can’t be captured in screenshots.

Siri and shortcuts

Siri, the Shortcuts app, and the shortcuts on the app icon only open the app to the right screen. They don’t read or send what you wrote.

Permissions

The app asks for permission to send notifications only when you turn on a reminder, and to use Face ID or your fingerprint only when you turn on the app lock. On Android, it asks to use your Google account only when you turn on sync. You can change these at any time in your device’s settings.

What the app never does

The app has no ads, analytics, crash reporting, or tracking of any kind. It doesn’t use your location, contacts, camera, photos, or microphone, and it doesn’t connect to Apple Health or Health Connect. The app connects to the internet only when you turn on sync, and then only to Apple’s iCloud on iPhone and iPad or to Google’s sign-in and Drive services on Android.

Links to other websites

Links in the app, like the ones to our website, open in your browser, where that website’s own privacy policy applies. The app doesn’t keep track of which links you open.

Email you send us

If you write to [email protected], we receive your email address, your name if your email includes it, your message, and any attachments. We use them to reply and to help with what you asked. Please don’t send us details about your health or a crisis. We can’t provide care, and we don’t monitor email for emergencies.

Selling and sharing

We don’t sell personal information or share it for advertising. The app doesn’t send us anything, so there is nothing from the app for us to sell or share.

Children

Behavioral Experiment isn’t meant for children under 13. If you’re under 18, use it with the involvement and permission of a parent or guardian. The app sends us nothing, so we don’t collect information from children through it. If a child under 13 emails us, we’ll delete the message once we learn of it.

Your choices

We don’t hold any of your app data, so there’s none for us to send you, correct, or delete. We keep email only as long as we need it to help you or to meet a legal obligation, and our email provider processes it for us. You can ask us to delete your messages, or ask anything else about your privacy, at [email protected].

Not health care

Everyday Insight’s tools are for education and personal reflection. They are not therapy or medical care, and they are not for emergencies.

Security

We build the app so your data stays on your device and in accounts you control. No method of storage is completely secure, so keep your device protected with a passcode and keep it up to date.

People outside the United States

Everyday Insight LLC is based in the United States. If you use the app or email us from another country, any information we receive, like an email, may be processed in the United States or wherever our service providers operate.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we’ll post the new version at behavioralexperiment.com/app/privacy with a new effective date. If the change is important, we’ll also let you know in the app. This policy is also available in Spanish. If the two versions differ, the English version controls.
